Out with the old, in with the new - Skyscrapers everywhere. | Architecture that reminds me of Sydney, Australia | The odd modern sculpture at the Chinese Paintings Museum. | Better learn to ease up on that comfort zone space. Pedestrians and bicyclists share the road with cars and buses. | Everyday rush hour traffic takes some getting used to for foreigners. | One in sixteen million. Massive population makes you feel either at home or isolated. | Xu Jia Hui Globe, where consumer electronics abound. Xu Jia Hui is often called the Times Square (New York) of Shanghai. | Polished Stainless Steel Entrance to a Taiwanese Restaurant. | The streets of Shanghai's Hong Qiao on a random late afternoon. The mix of bicyclists, private motorists, VIP cars, SUV's, vans, buses, taxi's and pedestrians make traffic worth watching. | Day traders in a quiet, smoke-filled room displaying stock market numbers. |
Ambitious Dragon motif hand-carved into the door of a classical Chinese chest made of solid Zitan hardwood. |
Children at play beside Tai Chi masters on a rare open field in the city. | Western influence by means of Graffiti. | Inspired by "The Streets" cover artwork, this midnight shot was taken from the 29th floor overlooking Dalian Rd. | An unusual view of the Bund from across town. | Bargain shoppers at the Dong Tai Road Market. Rubbing shoulders and weaving through people traffic is a must. No one walks through here with sleepy eyes. | Crossing paths in a familiar city: Wilson and Tomakazu in a snippet of time at the Portman Ritz-Carlton. | Courtside 'street flavor' at the Reebok basketball center where the toughest basketball players in the city duke it out. | Taken from twelve stories up in John's apartment behind the Portman Ritz-Carlton. | Chinese hero and Shanghai-bred Yao Ming glorified. He spent his pre-NBA days as the #1 CBA player on the Shanghai Sharks. | Reebok marketing placement that might remind you of Nike and Michael Jordan concept. Be like Mike? Be like Yao! | Who's going to be next? Surprisingly, Yao's Reeboks were not to be found on the courts as they hadn't been released. | Superstar status. It's amazing to find such graffiti in Shanghai. If anyone can replicate a cultural art, it's the Chinese - proven creators, leaders and superstars of reproduction. | Plaza 66 Tower One. Tower Two is under construction. | John Pasden of Sinosplice - a respected colleague and friend near his home in Shanghai. Newly rebuilt Ling Yin Temple stands in the middle of a contrasting cityscape. | Striking apartment complex - massive from the front, the building was amazingly shallow in depth from the side. |
Indoor BBQ Pork, Beef, Chicken, Squid and sugar topped cherry tomatoes. Tea as a drink, but beer is better fit with BBQ. |
Boarding the Maglev supertrain for its 8 minute airport express ride. It was quite an exciting anticipation to board the world's fastest train. | 430 km/h! At 10:46am, 5 minutes into the journey, the Maglev hit the reported maximum speed. Floating by magnetic levitation, the Maglev train is an engineering marvel. One does not hear an engine, but the hum of electrified coils. | The beautiful hand strokes of classical Chinese calligraphy at the Shanghai Art Museum by People's Square. |
